*Oh Gawd, hyuhr, hyuhr,.... ah, hyah,...yawn, the advertising manager of Kreg posts a glowing recommendation, AND HE/SHE/IT SHOUTS TOO. Subtle as a used car salesman. That's it. I'm definitely not buying one. I'd been thinking about it too. ;-) Slainte, RJ.
*You're not catching the subtleties here. First, some fellow comes along and gives a NONSENSE post about the product. Tees a bunch of people off. Much heated discussion. Then a white knight from the company comes along and politely discusses the fact that although the original poster was a goober, the product really does have it's place in the world. By golly, if I flesh this out a bit more I probably could put out a book about it and make a zillion dollars. OK, forget all that I just wrote.Dave
*Darn Dave, you're always able to catch me out. I fall for the pitch every time. Not buying a Kreg jig now though. It must be a really bad piece of kit if it needs a patsy to HOLLER, REALLY, b .....REALLY LOUD about it. Slainte.
*Several centuries ago, some woodworking genius discovered the mortise and tenon joint, and it’s been working very well ever since. Being a traditionalist I’ll stick with it.
*More like several millenia Rob. Check out the artefacts discovered in the pyramids; dovetails too. I've no doubt other ancient civilisations also had these dodges sussed. I do like one modern version of the loose M&T for some jobs, i.e., the biscuit joint. Really handy for lining up solid foredges to ply/MDF panel edges for one, as good as a slit feather, another variation on the M&T. Slainte, RJ.
*Why bother with pocket holes. I think having the phillips heads screws visible on the outside of the peice is fine, and makes subtle references to either Christianity or x-rated films, depending on how you align the screw heads.
*I use the biscuit jointer for some things myself. I find it very helpful in some situations. I usually use it more for alignment purposes, than to strengthen a joint. I once built a bunch of cheap display pedestals for a gallery, out of MDF and I used biscuits to help line everything up, while I clamped them. I learned two things from that job. Biscuits are handy, and MDF is an abomination.
*aww, mdf is just heavy & stinkyalex
