joining a collapsable large 45 mitre
Hi there everyone,
I am fabricating a platform bed for myself, and I am not too sure how to join the platform 45 degreee mitres. Here is a brief description of the project:
The boxspring will rest on the floor, and basically a frame will be built around it. The inside of the frame will be 10″ high, and a platform will extend out 8″. There will be a 4″ lip on the outside of the platform edge (mouted underneath) to give the project structure and depth. The headboard will be in two parts. The body that will be touching the ground, and the top which will be a five cubby hole cabinet 61x8x8.
It looks great on paper, and the design looks sound. here is my dilemma:
The two platform rails on the sides, and the platform edge at the foot of the bed will have 45’s on the end, and I am not sure how to join them. I would like them to be collapsable for moving pruposes. If I glue any part of the platform joints together, it will be a real pain in the neck to move around. I have thought of everything from biscuits, table leaf locking mechanisms, dowels, to pocket screws. I am at a loss. I need a tough, tight mitre that I need to be able to disassemble. Any and all thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance for your help!
