I am making a desk with turned legs. One of my options is to purchase turned legs but I would need to join sqaure stock to the turning. What would be the best way do do this?

It depends on what the turned leg you purchase looks like. Most have square tops where you can cut mortises to receive tenons from the aprons. This would eliminate the need to attach a piece of square stock to the turning. I am not sure if you have a lathe from your post, but if you do and really need to attach a square piece to the turning, I would drill a hole in the end of the turned leg and turn a matching tenon on the end of your piece of square stock. You could do it the other way around, but you would have to make up for the length you removed from the leg to make the tenon. If you don't have a lathe, you need to find a way to avoid an end-grain-to-end-grain glue up. You could use dowels. Hope this helps.
