Hi Gary,
I am making a round lamp table, which has four legs that are 7/8″ thick. I need to join two rails into the top of the legs. The rails will cross each other (with a half-lap in the middle), and the table top will then rest of these rails. The style is Arts and Crafts.
Question…is a dovetail joint the best way to attach, or a through tenon?
Thanks

Hi,
Your choice of a joint depends on a number of factors including strength, looks, and skill. In terms of strength a dovetail, in this case a slot dovetail through the leg, would be great. I'm not sure this kind of table needs that sort of effort however. A regular slot mortise and tenon would be just fine and plenty strong. Good luck. Gary
