I am making a workbench of 2 x 4’s laminated together. I jointed the edges on my Delta 6″ jointer and after every two boards the dust chute would become totally clogged. I took the cover for the chute off but the shavings seem to collect where they enter the chute. So after every two boards (18 altogether) I would turn the machine off and clear the chute. Any ideas on how to improve this?
The jointer is the open stand model.

Had the same problem with my jointer until I hooked up a dust collector to it. Clean as a whistle now.
Jase,
Ditto to what Woodchuck said regarding hooking up a dust collector. That's one problem with jointing softwoods: you can hog off so much in one pass, the chute clogs. I've never had that problem when using hardwoods. GP
Use a stick about 18 inches long and rake out every couple of boards.
Works for me
Thanks everyone for your input. Someday when I have my own shop i'll be able to set up my tools how I woud like to, including dust collection. The jointer resides in my father's garage on a mobile base (for his convenience). No room or right to set up anything there.
Jase-Is there a better way?
