Good afternoon John,
After watching the video on your magnet knife setting jig I have a couple of questions. Do you use a dial indicator to find the highest point for the knife blade(s) and it looks like they all need to be set in the exact same position to to use this jig. How do you lock the blade holder in place. BTW I have a Grizzly G5086 jointer.
Thanks,
Bruce B

You do need to get each of the blades into the top dead center position to correctly install them. To be honest, you can pretty well judge the TDC position by eye and being a bit off won't do any harm.
What is important is that you make a mark for the TDC, no matter how you determine it, on a small piece of tape attached to the fence and that each of the blades is in line with this mark when the blade is installed and adjusted for height.
I use a small wedge of pine inserted into the gap between the infeed table and the head to keep the head from rotating as I change a knife.
If you want a fancier way to find TDC and a lot of other details about tuning up a jointer, my book goes into a lot more detail, but you really don't need it for just knife changing.

Thanky you John,
I made the jig last night. The only difference being the magnets I found at my local Radio Shack aren't as thick as the ones in your video and they have a 1/4" hole in the center. (they are sold five to a package). Now I will go search for your book.
