Thanks in large part to Derek (in Perth), I went ahead and jumped for the LV #7 BU Jointer. Went to Somerset and lightened my wallet. I like what I consider the flexibility of the BU jointer and really wanted to have one Veritas plane rather than another LN. Also went to Dulles and squandered more.
No giddiness seems appropriate in view of the agony in Japan, nevertheless, I’m pleased and thanks to Derek.

How's the plane working?
I went for the LV as well. I loved the way the plane works! I got a steeper 38-degree blade too for tricky grain and the fence. I used the plane to flatten a large dining table I was building.
So Far, So Gooood !
I've never before been able to afford a jointer plane, so this is a treat.
I bought the thing to joint tops to small tables. I guess I'm surprised at how well it works, however it took a couple of days to get the "action" right............ my action, not the plane's. :>) I went through an 8' 1 x 6 from Lowe's to work out a technique suitable to the tool. What a joy to use well-made stuff.
I'm still weaving together my "dream shop" in retirement and finding the best use for the several new tools I've bought lately, so I have yet to surface any large tops with this plane, but that's where I'm headed. I love having the power equipment to get the job done when I start sweating too heavily, but I also have to admit that hand tools are much more fun. That said, they are only more fun when I don't have to fight worn mediocre stuff.
The good news is that I now know that when results are not as they should be, it's no longer the tool's fault but my own need to improve technique. The bad news is that I don't have worn planes to kick around any more. No more finger pointing.........
I guesstimate that it will take me awhile to make things hum along as they should. Will break out the good wood this Fall and risk the wood that's hard to replace. :>) Thanks for asking.
Almost forgot ! The LN #4? WOW! Nothing else to say. And for what it's worth, the LN BU#6 will be the most used plane I've ever had. Somehow it manages to crawl in my hand on just about everything. Favorite is not the word, but most useful? Yeah. And easy to use. Laying over a 2 x 6? LN#6. Easing a door? LN#6. Truing door fronts? LN#6. Eating a taco? Yep.
NO. Wait.........................
FWIW, the LN low angle jack (#62) is great for shaving lettuce for tacos. Being meticulous about clean-up and re-oiling is essential, though. ;-)
