My jointer has started tapering the cut on long pieces run through it . This jointer was used yesterday by someone else without any problem. Most people using this machine are experienced woodworkers but could it be the operator has anyone come across this problem.
Thanks Colin

Typically it means your outfeed table is a few thousandths higher than the cutting circle. I'd move the fence to use a lesser used section of blade or drop the outfeed table down a few thousandths. You would drop it down then raise it up due to backlash. Also dull blades do this.
Thanks for the reply we checked the setup and it checks out okay I think it is an opoerator error. The machine is in a big shop with different operators .I was getting some other opinions to see if it was common.I will check the machine out propoerly tommorrow. Thanks again

Colin, It sounds like it is likely a user-problem. Could you describe how you use it, what brand, size machine. Crown up etc.
Otherwise you will get a thousand answers of wild guesses.
If the4 other guiys were not having troubles yesterday, chances are it's you! don't feel bad though, it's been all of us (the honest ones anyway) until we figured out the technique.
I have a story at the link below that goes over this and has a video also. It really is easy once you see it done and understand why.
Don't mess around adjusting anything until you are SURE it is the machine and not the operator. We see lots of machines that are now out of adjustment because somebody tried fixing what wasn't broke.

Because there is always more to learn!
I agree with you,I did not have the problem ,The peice of wood being machined was very long and was difficult to handle ,I will find out on thursday when I go to the shop and keep you updated
Colin
Jointer technique is *hard* for what seems like a trivial tool.
just remember that you only want enough pressure on the board while feeding in to keep it flat. thats all.
