Most SCM products have a good reputation. You commonly find them in prefessional shops. No direct experience with the f3a but if the capacity is big enough for you, the tables aren't warped (unlikely), and the motor sounds good I'ld go for it if you need a jointer. A great deal on a 12" is better than an 8 or 6 inch at full price anyday. I have an 8" and frequently want a larger one. I'm saving for a 20" in the future.
I have to agree with what was said already. First of all, SCM is a very good company. I own 4 of their industrial machines, although not this planer. But a planer is such a simple machine really - if the tables are flat and move easily, if the cutterhead is balanced and appears unharmed, go for it. Change the motor if need be. In the long run you'll be happy with every extra inch of planer you can get.
