Hi, I need some words of wisdom. I am a neophyte in the world of machinery repair. I have an 8″ General Jointer(not General International) which has a problem with the highth adjuster. It appears to have lost the grip on the captured nut and just spins. The handwheel is firmly attached to the threaded rod, but can’t move the infeed table. How do I take the infeed table off and how do I get at the captured nut in order to take the table off? Any advice from experienced users will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Typically there are some locking collars to hold the adjustment screw in place. Removing that should allow the screw to come out and slide the table down the ways.
Thanks for your quick response Rick. How do I get at the locking collar when I presume it is inside the cast iron base? I have never done this before. thanks for any help. Chuck23
The locking collar is on the other side of the tab that is secured to the base so it's accessible from near the handle. Without pictures and being there it's hard to expalain in words. It should be fairly obvious if you look in there. Have you looked at your parts brakdown? That should give some insight to what's what. This is a dovetailed jointer, not a parallelgram one? The parallelogram is a much more complcated one to take apart. That the one...remember in asking for help always give more info than necessary. Never assume that you have given enough info. Most people don't.
