OK, boys, round up a posse and see if old Trapper Joe is sober enough to track. I'll bring the rope.
I'm ready to go but I bet we'll need our passports, better pack a lunch too.
hugh
Dave,
Gee no...don't have too many pieces like that. Where do you live?...be specific include house number, road, and color of house....lol
Yeh we get boards bigger than that here but it is only 1/40" thick .Its called veneer !!!! <G>
I actually saw similar board at the local lumbar yard. Several boards as a matter of fact and about 10 feet long. I didn't pull each board out to examine, but they were wide.
Dave, I saw some boards like that about a year ago at the sawmill I use here in Pennsylvania(Snow Capitol of the world right now!) They had a number of them over 30 inches wide! and over 12 feet long as I recall. The name of the mill is Groff and Groff Lumber , Bill Groff and his son Chris operate it. They advertise in FWW. there phone number is 1-800-342-0001. I don't think they have a website.
Fast Eddie in Pa.
And I can only believe they have a price to match.
I didn't price them, however I buy almost all my lumber from them and find them to give good value for the dollar spent Better than any prices I have found on the net, and lucky for me, no shiping charges involved. I frequently by common red oak for under 1.50 a bd ft plus 30 cents to S3S. common poplar which I have used a lot lately for 75 cents a bd foot, SAS poplar for 1.80
Fast,
This is my candystore as well. Great selection, wonderfully fair prices. About 1.5 hrs from Philadelphia, and no furhter from Baltimore, I think. Very near the Md. border. Quarryville, Pa.
One nice feature is that you can call ahead and find out if they have what you need or want in the racks, and if not when some might be coming from the kilns. But the best feature is that you can stay there all day, pouring through the racks, to select just what you want. The Groffs will not bother you at all, so long as you rerack the wood to about the way you found it. And, say they have a 12' board, and you want 4 or so feet of it. As long as you are leaving them a saleable length, they will cross cut it for you. Can't ask for much more than that.
S4S,
yep, I discovered them about 8 years ago, didn't know they existed until I saw one of their ads in a WW magazine. I love walking around that balcony but I have to keep my checkbook under very tight control when I am there! Did you know Bill was sick for a while? he is doing great now though. Where exactly are you? I live in the city of Lancaster.
Happy shoveling!

It was longer ago than that, for me. Used to be Goff and Hearne. Now they are separate, with Hearne doing more of the tropicals, I think. I go there occassionally, but I mostly work in domestics, so G&G is my home base. Don't know how long ago it became Groff & Groff. Maybe 15 years? That is just a guess.
Dave
I haven't seen boards that wide since the late 70's or early 80's. My wife is from Pa. and may have a look next trip up as Fast Eddie seems to have a visual on some up that way. Think I'll wait for the snow to clear a little though. ha..ha..
Take advantage as you have...
