Hi Hammer K3 owners,
I am expecting delivery of my new K3 winner in the next couple of weeks and I am thinking I will try to keep my 3hp sawstop too. I like the idea of keeping the sawstop for use with dado blades, cutting drawer grooves and some other operations. Has anyone else made a similar decision…keeping their 10” cabinet saw? If so, did you orient them back to back? I’d like to build a shared outfeed table/station, but am not sure how difficult it is to get the two saw’s tables at the same height (and level). I have some videos from insta whiz Ramon Valdez showing his general design (very cool). But, wondering if there are others who’ve successfully engineered such a design.
thanks!
Matt

Keep your table saw. When I got my slider I moved my Unisaw into a corner at close proximity of my bench area. I do a lot of joinery cuts on the Unisaw as well as mitering and ripping short parts along with sleds for specialized operations etc. My Felder is in the area with my machinery. The small saw is very convenient to have in my working area. The best of both worlds.
I can see no point in linking the two with a shared table.
That’s the idea—there are some joinery cuts that I believe it’s worth keeping the 10”. As for locating the two, it’s just a question of efficient space usage and orientation to the dust collection.
You don't need the outfeed tables to be totally level - just below the level of the lowest saw.
K3 Winner has pre-drilled holes in the table to allow attaching the Felder extension tables which are available up to 24"
It is possible to shim the feet of the K3 but that makes it hard to move about.
When you get your K3, you will find you don't want to mess about with changing blades on your cabinet saw - there is so much easy access for blade changes. The Felder dado set is horribly expensive but excellent quality...
Just one tip - the blade guard retaining pin does not locate easily into it's hole. This means that the guard can feel tightly in place but still be loose and fall off. Make sure it's in correctly and not pinching.
Hey Rob SS,
Its been more than a few months since the K3 was commissioned...Its hard to overstate how much of a game changer it's been. Crosscutting on the old cabinet saw with my old shop made sleds...seems like sending a telegram in the age of cell phones, WhatsApp, txt, etc.
Since you mentioned the blade guard issues, I thought id share two ideas back. Ramon Valdez makes a fantastic Zero Clearance Insert for the K3 throat, and I followed the example of a great Insta poster/woodworker in creating an adjustable overarm blade guard/dust shroud.
Hi Mattk41,
I have the K3 Winner. Nice job on your over arm guard and dust extraction. I may take a crack at doing something similar. You also mention a zero clearance throat plate. I bought two of the solid inserts from Hammer but on the slider side of the blade there is very little material left after making your first through cut and it broke off shortly after. It is also very difficult to make a zero clearance plate while maintaining the riving knife in place. Do you have any more contact info on the one from Ramon? Thanks.
Hi SNL, sorry I didn't see your reply to this...yes! Here is a link to the Ramon Valdez ZCI.

Also, If you have interest in the overhead arm guard I cribbed/adapted it from one published in Canadian Ww'ing from David Bedrosian...who also makes a dynamite jig I could not live without...a fritz and Franz jig. Have you see this? Game changer.

Thanks a lot to both of you for getting back to me on this. Much appreciated. I look forward to all the new ideas and information.
I recently bought a 5hp ics, and decided to keep my 30 yr old unisaw and love the new setup. unisaw primarily used for dado, and mounted back to back with ss. see pictures
If you have the space... keep the sawstop; and the recommendations to dedicate it to dado and assorted tasks is spot-on.
4 years ago, I swapped my Delta 10" for a 9' Felder slider, and space constraints forced me to purge the Delta... I don't miss it at all. For the few dados that I do, I make due with either a router or multiple passes on the slider. Only you know the trade-off of space and convenience.
