I finally got the connection between the author’s name and Mr. “Sgian Dubh” who frequents this site. You can read his writing in the August edition of Woodwork magazine.

It's a stomach turning and nauseating connection to make isn't it, Newhuh? It's one of those things in life you probably really wish you hadn't found out.
Oddly enough, Jon Arno in the next issue, October, issue 89 of the same magazine goes over some similar ground but in more detail in his discussion on walnut. Slainte.
Yeah, Sgian...now that you've gone back to England and don't have our immigration people on your tail...you'd think you could drop this cloak & dagger business and just sign on as Richard Jones. :O)
I've been singing that tune to him for years, Jon. I think the problem is that they're after him over there too.
A trivia question for the old timers here would be..."Name as many aliases for Richard Jones as you can think of."
I know three.
Lee
Ha, ha, Lee. I can think of at least half-a-dozen more. Slainte.RJFurniture
But, but, Jon-- I'm Sgian Dubh in these places. That other feller is awfully straitlaced and just too boring. Slainte.RJFurniture
Well Sgian, all I can say is I hope you've kept good medical records...We wouldn't want a lot of brothers and sisters marrying each other after you've downed your last pint.
I'm pretty sure I could get six or so aliases, if I sat down and thunk....I remember reading an article about a Brit who settled in Texas in Woodshop News years ago....we were posting here, or had started emailing.....anyway, it clicked all of a sudden who this character was. I have benefitted from the relationship.
Richard, did you get your SCMI slider yet? I got a nice Casadei Shark in a little while ago; halfway through getting it started up.cabinetmaker/college woodworking instructor. Cape Breton, N.S
You just may be the oldest timer here, Adrain. I can't remember if you were hanging out here before me but I haven't seen a name older than yours for quite a while.
I dunno...is this a good thing?

Lee, it beats an obituary.
Ain't that the truth!
I sometimes I wonder if I'd be better off chucking this computer in the pond and leaving the cyber age behind. It's got it's good points but there are days I stare at a computer screen too much.
But then on the other hand...it's made me a world famous furniture designer with dozens of hot babes hanging out in front of my house, two Lear jets in the garage, cars-a-plenty, more money than I can count, and an honorary citizen of at least one other country.
Sigh...
Lee
I remember you showing up, young feller.....
I've been on this forum and Breaktime since '96 I believe, somewhere around there. Not quite in at the beginning, but I don't think the forums had been going too long. I come and go now. Learned a lot; met a lot of good people.cabinetmaker/college woodworking instructor. Cape Breton, N.S
There you have it, Adrian. I truly believe you're the oldest fart in this forum.
Gees, I'd better get up there to devour your crustaceans before you croak.
Lee

Are you talking about the Member Since: date shown in the user profile? Yours and Adrian's both show 3/20/2002, which was the date we switched to Prospero. Jon's is the same. Mine is 4/24/2002.
Unc,
Taunton had forums for several years before the switch to Despero. The old and what I considered the best forum software was WebX.
If you can't remember the WebX days you're a very young whippersnapper by this forum's standards.
Lee
Oh I remember WebX. I thought it was awful. I used to stop by and check out Breaktime about once a year, but I was never tempted to register and start posting until Prospero came along.

Hmmmmm, Dunc. I wonder if that's why Lee preferred WebX...(?) :O)
You missed the true heyday of this forum, Unc. There were fewer political discussions, more philosophical ones and very, very in-depth discussions about woodworking topics. When the concept of internet forums was still new(ish) there was a lot more participation by the higher echelon in the trades. I've noticed this decline across the few boards I attend so I'll assume it's across the board generally. Just as Adrian visits less often there are many who have declined. It's a loss. Threads are not as interesting or as detailed as they used to be. The level of discussion used to be higher. The change to Desparo was just a push out the door to many of the old timers, they would probably have burned out ayway.
Well, you come for your own reasons and that's a good thing.
Lee
Lee,
Hey, are you and uncledunc from ole Virginny?
Q:How many Virginians does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Four; one to do the changing, and three to stand around and talk about how good the old bulb used to be. ;-0))
I love it now that I'm old enough to geez. My son tells me that's what us old geezers are doing, when we start to reminisce...
Cheers,
Ray
It's not in yet Adrian. They're still building out the new workshop ready for the new term. Delivery and installation should be sometime in September, but I'm on holiday at the moment so I haven't been in to check out. Next week I'll see what's developed, and perhaps what hasn't, ha, ha.
I haven't come across one of those Casadei Sharks. I'll need to check them out. Slainte.RJFurniture
Well, there you go Lee and Jon. Name changed---- well, for now anyway. How long that'll last I can't say, ha, ha. Slainte.RJFurniture
I think going back to England was a good move. I grew up in Dallas and spent many summers as a kid forced to vacation down in Freeport and Galveston with my folks. I hated the heat. I hated humidity. I never got used to it. I live in Seattle now, and oddly it reminds me of Wales.
Seriously, guys, if you want heat and humidity, try south-central Florida. I believe we'll put all others to shame. Don't forget the sky darkening with those little bloodsuckers, either.
I lived in Texas all my life until moving to Florida in January, 1998. Call it heat and humidity here if you want, but Houston is the real killer. Not only do you have similar heat and humidity to the Tampa Bay area, the prevailing wind direction brings the Gulf air across the oil refineries before depositing it around town!

Food for Thought: The Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
Don't get me started on the Houston climate, Newhuh. I lived there for roughly a decade and, looking back, I sort of wonder how I survived it for that long, ha, ha--- ha, ha, ha. Slainte.RJFurniture
This is a Shark....mine doesn't have the overhead panel though. May add it in the future
