Hi
Does anyone here know about King Canada tools ??
I suspect they are built in the same factory as grizzly tools, but I’me not sure. I’m looking at a 10 inch cabinet saw at 1450 $cdn, about 986 $us, and I have no reference to compare the saw.
Thanks for your advice…

Bob,
I have never heard of..not that that makes a big difference. I'm curious though, at that price, why not buy the Grizzly?
They come out of the same factories that make all the other stuff that gets branded at the end of the line....all the good and bad points about them. I'm careful about which tools I buy, and I'm able to tweak a tool to some degree.....but I have had and have now several King tools, and they quite a good tool at a good price (I think the Asian stuff is often underated). certainly as good as a grizzly (in Canada, these tools are often sold as Kings or Craftex, maybe other brandss too). I had a King tablesaw once in one shop; a little rougher around the edges than a General or a Powermatic, and not the saw I would buy if I was using it eight hours a day, everyday (just because of the motor), but a good saw, and it's still probably running just fine.cabinetmaker/college instructor. I know of grizzly only because I see it in magazine, and here in the snowy province of Québec, I dont know of any retailer that sells it. I'm faced with a big dillema... I will have some money to spend on tools at the end of january, and I have several option... 1st, a 6 inch jointer and a dewalt 12 inch planer, or the table saw and clamps, or fluorescent lighting for my shop and planer......etc. What should I do ????
Bob,
Don't go bragging about your snow in Quebec, I was up there last week (Montreal) for a couple a days, hit two snow storms on my way back home to Boston...lol.
Grizzly only sells direct..you will not see it in any showroom except theirs (Muncy, PA.), which is at least an 8-10 hours drive for you.
I just went through the same decision process...limited amount of funds, unlimited amount of needs. Over the past two years I have been spending very cautiously, acquiring only the stuff I need, quality consistent with my needs. In most cases I have looked for tools that could be modified slightly and deliver the functionality of other tools...thereby eliminating the need for so much stuff...and reducing cost. My latest go around was deciding on a large bandsaw verses a large table saw....and dosen't the bandsaw give me the TS functionality that I need ...plus the resawing capability for draw sides that I want.
What I did not factor into my thinking was that as I practice my hobby my quality standards would rise also. I looked around at all my kinda quality tools and when combined with my kinda quality skills produces ....well, you get the picture. So I started to think (using my kinda quality mind), the large bandsaw is not a TS and its not a re-saw and if I buy that will I be perpetuating the kinda quality outcomes that have become so frustrating? I decided on the Grizzly 1023s because it will make quality cuts. It is much more saw than I will probably ever need, however, it is a required investment to achieve the quality I seek. A contractor saw might have been enough, but, all things considered, I did not see a real price differential..especially if I bought a Delta with a Bies fense.
I don't own a jointer. I don't have the space for it and between good stock selection, hand planes and my 12 1/2" planer I get buy. However, I can see the day in the near future when a 8" jointer will be needed. I don't think they really save you money on the cost of wood, but to start a project with squared up stock all the same size..The TS, jointer, planer are required.
In your case, I'd buy the TS and planer....and a box of candles. By the time you learn how to use it, the midnight sun will be back and the lights will be useless.....lol
Just a note that there is a difference between King and King Industrial, make sure you get the Industrial. I have the six inch jointer and am very happy with it. I use it quite often and have had no trouble in two years. I can't find the factory website but here are a couple of links to retailers.
