Hello: I’m having a couple of problems with responses to posts. One is using spell checker; after using it the first time on a reply my screen goes to back to spell checker every time I hit the spacebar, not always but frequently. Also it would be helpful for me if there was a way to save a reply and finish it later. I don’t always have the time to write a proper reply in one sitting, sometimes I need to go off site and get information from somewhere else. Could this be done?
Thanks, KDM

I don't have an answer for the spell checker, but I can offer an idea for answering posts when you can't do it all at once. This is an issue that I have had on occasion, so I type the text in "notepad" and then copy and paste when I am ready to respond.

I do the exact same thing. Notepad is so handy for temp stuff like that, it's permanently wired to my Start Menu. The only small caveat I've run into is needing to turn Word Wrap off before before doing the Select All/Copy/Paste. Depending on the application that you paste into, you sometimes end up with embedded line feeds in unintended place with Word Wrap on. Waddaya mean it wont fit through the door?
I type all my responses in word, then cut and paste into message box when complete. This would allow you to come back at any time and finish a message.
Another way to keep a reply open is to open another browser window. From the Knots Forum messages window, click File and New Browser Window. A duplicate Knots Forum window will appear, just without the ability to use the Back button. Click Reply on the message of interest; type your preliminary reply and leave it there. Go back to the original Knots Forum window and surf or whatever.
You can have a lot of Browser Windows open at the same time. I find it handy to keep Knots Forum open while I do other things like check my email.
Duke, Here's a free spell checker that goes right on your ie tool bar and allows you to check spelling anytime you fill out a form in ie.

I generally have at least 2, often 3, 4 or 5 browser windows open at once. If you get into typing a response and realize you need to go Google or something <g>, just do "control+N" and a new browser will open (or, as mentioned above, File-->New-->Window). Then you can use that window to browse around, leaving the Knots reply window in the background awaiting your return.
One caveat: If you take awhile to browse and then come back and finish your reply, it's not a bad idea to copy the response in case it gets lost in cyberspace when you click Post. To do this, do Control+A (select all), the Control+C to copy it. Then if something goes wrong, you can re-post by using the paste command.

FG: Doesn't having all those windows open slow down your pc, eating up RAM or something? I guess copying it to compleate it latter would be easy and safe. Don't you just hate it when you lose a composition of any sort when some gremlin gets it or you hit the "clear form" button by mistake? Ah computers!!

I used to have problems with RAM when I only had 64mb or whatever (older computer). Certainly no problem with these computers (512mb) and we picked up a "used" computer (new in April) at an auction last weekend that has 1 Gigabyte of RAM. Owned by a gamer. Whoa!
Personally, I don't opt for the notepad approach because it's so easy for stuff to get messed up when it gets posted at Knots, making the message hard to read (eg., the word wrap thing). Plus it slows me down, copying from one app to the other (fast typing speed makes me impatient about other things). Occasionally, I get carried away and have 8 or 9 windows open at once. When the task bar goes to a duplex form, I know I need to go back and close some windows, LOL!
Does everyone know about using Alt+Tab to flip through different apps? And that if you hold the Alt down as you do it you can see icons for all the apps/windows as you flip through them? This is in Windows of course. I'm no Microsoft fan, but that's what I use.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Forest! Sounds like you need TWO Puters to keep up with ya!
Forestgirl - from another big Alt-Tab user you might find this handy.

There's a free Alt-Tab replacement from MS that lets you see a page preview in the Alt-Tab display. If you've got multiple instances of the same app running, the normal Alt-Tab icon display shows the same icon for each. The replacement shows you a bit of each window so you can tell one from another.Waddaya mean it wont fit through the door?
ooooo, Kewl! Thanks! I just put a new Logitech mouse on the business computer, and it has an app-swapping button on it. The software shows the URL of the different IE windows, and app name for the rest. Pretty nice. But I can use the PowerToy for this (home) computer.
OOOPS, wait a minue. I think I tried that one once, had some kind of problem with it, don't remember why but I uninstalled it. Hmmmmmmm?

"So instead of 12 apps open on one desktop, you could have 4 apps open on 3 desktops." OhhhhhKay..... Seriously, thanks for the tip. I think it has an NVIDIA card in it, rings a bell anyway. Might even have that software, who knows? Most of my windows are I-Explorer, but a desktop for mail and word processing etc. would be good.
That'll really drive my hubby nuts! He already thinks I'm weird at the computer, LOL.
