Does anyone have any experience with the Kreg pneumatic pocket maker? It sells for about 749 to 799 dollars. i am interested in one but dont’ know much about it. i have the 2000 and have used it since it was introduced and reallylike it a lot. this is just so much easier.

I have had one for 2 years. It works great. It is alot faster than the manual jig.
Chris. How big is your compressor? i have A 4 GALLON Hitachi. My dealer said i would need a 5 gallon reserve tank. does that wound right? Do you use it a lot? Thanks, joe
Joe,
I had a small 5hp 20 gallon compressor when I first got the jig. It drilled the best at about 90 lbs pressure. The compressor had a 120 lb max & 75 lb low pressure. When the pressure dropped below 85 I would have to feed the bit slow & do that until the pressure built back up. Last fall I upgraded to a 7hp with an 80 gallon & 175 max & 125lb low pressure. Now it drills great all the time.
I have tried it at woodworking shows, and it worked great.
I spent the day with a manual Kreg jig, drilling some 600 holes -- and I sure wish I had had one of those pneumatic machines.
yeah, i know. i don't do that much but when i do i hate messing around with the thing. ihave three pocket hole jigs, but i think i am going to spring for this one. it just seemed to easy to use.
JT, I've been using the Porter Cable automated machine for the past couple of months. It's a pretty good tool, much faster and easier than the Kreg hand-drill setup. In some situations though the small Kreg is the only thing that will work.
Mike
jt , and all interested ,
I have had a pocket screw or as I call it face frame jig in use for many years . Ritter and some others make the drill bit with a fishtail pilot bit . and it utilizes a pneumatic hold down as well as an air actuated toggle to move the hold down ram. The base is welded steel . I had a local welding shop or if you or a friend can weld make the base and purchased the 3 other components depending on the cost of the metal fabrication the total cost very well could be way under $150-$200 .I have not seen the one you speak of , but the one I am describing is very heavy duty and sets on a drill press.
let me know if you want more info
dusty
Dusty, I would love more information. What kind of jig is it? How did you rig it up? you have my full attention on this matter. Thanks.
jt,
I will try and post a photo and save a thousand words or so . Please be patient on this , I need to work this afternoon but will do my best to get a photo posted. Mine is mounted on a full size floor model drill press , and has been in service for 15 or 20 years . Some times verbalizing certain technical aspects are difficult for me , so a picture or 2 it will be the best way to show you how simple and accurate and useful this jig is. Not to mention inexpensive . dusty
I truly appreciate your information. This is a wonderful site. Most people are very helpful. thanks joe
Hi jt ,
If this is similar to what you need let me know and I will send you some exact dimensions. The angle of the ramp is most important of all.
dusty
Sorry about the blanks , I am still trying . Too bad computers are not made of wood , I could make a new one or fix them . dusty
Well the first one worked , I am still on the learning curve with sending jpgs as you can see , sorry . I will continue to try , but this should give you the idea.
dusty , the not computer literate
jt ,
Here goes again , I'll get it at some point , I hope .
