thanks a lot, you &*%#&%! that just cost me $250. and of course i'm now salivating over a Multico PM16 mortiser- so i'll probably kiss another $500 plus shipping goodbye before the week is out.

Yeah, that's what my wife said, too.
Dan
btw- the reconditioned mortiser was $552.95 incl. ship'g. i only held out another hour or so. what crappy willpower i have around good tool deals. but my impatience paid off- i went back to check something later in the day and they were already out of recons. the new units are $150 more- so technically, i saved $150, right? on top of the $80 or so i saved on the saws. at the rate i'm going, i'm gonna spend myself rich!
i've wanted a multico mortiser for a long time. a few years back one of the better ww mags reviewed benchtop machines and their conclusion was that compared to a multico, the rest were toys.

Thanks for the heads up, Dan. Combined with picking up a shoulder plane at the Japan Woodworker on Monday, I'm all set to try some hand-cut tenons, hopefully by this weekend. Although I did have to defend my choice of the Lie-Nielsen saws to the guy there (a Japanese saw devotee, obviously).
