Anyone have suggestions for brands of lacquer? I’ve used Gemini and more recently Campbell Magnalac. (sounds like a laxative) How do these brands compare to others? Does anyone have a favorite or does it even matter that much?
Thanks.

Wooddood;
M.L. Campbell is the standard here in New England. Most guys I know in the business use their products. Magnamax is much tougher than magnalac, and is just as easy to use.
Thanks. That's kind of what I thought. I want to try the Magnamax but I'm having trouble finding a dealer in the Chicago area. (I live in the western burbs) They carry the Mgnalac but say they can't get the Magnamax. The distributer won't sell to me direct because I don't have an actual spray booth- just an explosion proof fan in my shop wall.
Any suggestions on dealers?
Thanks.
It's not so much brand that matters, but the amount of solids content, listed as a percent on reputable products. the higher the solids content, the more durable your finish.
Wooddood,
I used to get my ML Campbell products from EKD in Franklin Park when I had my shop in Chicago about seven years ago. If they don't carry Magmax for some reason, check the suppliers in neighboring states. I should think the manufacturer would help you out on this, but I know ML Campbell can be very difficult to work with on these things. Best of luck.
Thanks for the reply. EKD is the one who won't sell to me direct because of the spray booth issue. I'll just keep calling their dealers to see if any of them can get it.
I used to use Magnalac, but I have switched to Magnamax. It is a really nice durable finish and easy to apply. Art
I use Sherwin Williams pre cat.
