I made some cubby holes for my church. I went and bought oil based stain from a local paint store. I asked them if this stain was compatible with spray lacquer. And, they said, “Yes”. Six months have pass and the smell, LIKE SPOILED MILK, is so bad that they want it out. I use a lacquer That you have to add hardener to it. The other projects has the same odor to, but not as bad, you have to put your noise down on the piece and inhale hard and long before you can smell that SPOILED MILK SMELL.
Thanks,

Tom,
Are you sure it's not an old sermon stuffed back in there somewhere making the smell? I know some of mine go bad after a while. Or so I'm told. :)

*No, I am quite sure it's the lacquer that smells and not the sermon.
*My wife just informed me that another project that I did for her bus garage keys smells the same way. I did find out that the stain Old World ( I think that's right) and commercial spray lacquer has a chemical reaction that will cause this odor
