I just got my Laguna LT 18. I am a little confused by the tension gauge. Do the numbers that scroll through the tension window refer to millimeters as represented in the chart next to the window? If so it appears that the amount of tension it is requiring is awfully high. I do not normally tension by blades that much. Maybe I am readin it wrong. Any advice will be appreciated.

Mr Burton,
You want to know about your Laguna saw. Why not go to the Laguna website at:
http://www.lagunatools.com/
They have a phone number 800.234.1976
Laguna Tools - 17101 Murphy Avenue, Irvine, California, 92691
Give them a call. That will probably get you the answer to your question.

Measure your output in smiles per board foot.
I don't have the cool guy 18 that you have. I've one of the smaller ones with no numbers. Seems like in the Laguna video he explains the nice gauge you have and how to use it. Its been years since I saw the vid so hope you will forgive.
Doesn't take much tension with a Laguna. As the owner of Laguna says "just enough". The numbers probably are so you can come back quickly to the same spot for the blade you are using once you have experimented and made a note of what setting is best.
I'd watch the vid again and surely the booklet that came with the saw will tell you. My booklet was quite informative.
You can watch the video on line now you do not need to get a DVD in the mail

Once you go to the site click on the "videos" button on the right side of the button bar and away you go.

I have the LT-16HD which is a step down from the LT-18. The scale on my bandsaw is pretty much a no-brainer. You read the number next to the blade size on the scale and tension the saw until that number appears in the window. I am assuming your saw has the same tensioning scale since the saws are nearly identical except for size.

That is what I thought. It just seems like an exorbitant amount of tension on the blade.
Thanks for the reply
Numbers on my 7 year old LT-18 correlate to the width of the blade in mm.
