Looking for anyone who has used the Laguna Guides on a Delta 18″ Bandsaw. I would like to know if they were easy to use and how good they really are,as they are not cheap
Thanks

Having used the Laguna Guides on an older Laguna resaw master, I prefer the Carter guides over the Laguna. The Laguna guides that sit on either side of the blade work fine; however, the Laguna wheel that sits behind the blade gets 'sticky' with sawdust and it doesn't turn as readily as it should. The result is that it cuts into the guide and throws sparks. (I did round the rear of the bandsaw blade with a stone.) Throwing sparks from the upper guide into saw dust causes me concern. In addition, the ball bearings in the rear guide aren't accessible to replacement. On my previous Delta 14" bandsaw, I had moved to the Carter guides and was pleased with them. I plan to move to the Carter guides on the resaw master when I sock away enough cash.
Z , I think your talking about the euro style guides on the older Lagunas, He Question is about the ceramic style, I think?
Tom.
Yes, my reply was about the European style.
I like the ceramic guides on my New ish Laguna saw. That wasn't what you were asking I know but if I had your saw I would get these guides AND the Laguna resaw king blade.

Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunitely no one has installed the ceramic guides on an 18" Delta Band saw. It would appear that Laguna do not know the answer either. Its a shame as I'm sure they could move a lot of after mkt guides. this is a recession and one would assume that that should be trying to gain mkt share where ever possible.

I don't think many people have installed the Laguna ceramic guides on non-Laguna bandsaws. If they have I would expect we would hear a lot more chatter about them. It's not a question of recession, Laguna marketing, or anything at all about the product... but more simply that the guides that come on quality bandsaws are more than adequate, thus there isn't much of a market for aftermarket replacement guide systems. I have Carter guides on my Minimax (they came with the machine) and I have no complaints, the blade tracks perfectly and while I have looked at the Laguna guides I can find no compelling reason to spend $200 to swap out what I have right now.
What is say is true for the best part but I believe that there is always room for improvement. The Laguna Ceramic guides are I'm sure better than the roller guides I have now, although i'm not really having problems with my bandsaw. Ps I didbuy the Driftmaster. The better the equipment the easier it is to achieve perfection . (dont anybody tell me it's not the tools it's who's using them--- I know that already)
