I’m about an inch from ordering the LT16HD from Laguna. This is the new version, not the “classic” so it has 16″ resaw and a 4.5 hp Baldor. I’m thinking of ordering what the salesman calls the “show special”, $2695 for the saw, a Resaw King blade, three other blades, mobility kit, and to-door shipping including liftgate service.
So my questions are:
1) The shipping would be about $300 anyway, so I’m paying $100 for the four blades and mobility kit. Has anyone gotten a better deal they’d be willing to share specifics on, recently? 🙂
2) I read one report that the mobility kit’s usefulness is limited, because you can’t change blades easily (kit blocks the bottom door). Does anyone have the new LT16HD with their mobile base and know this to be true or untrue?
3) Salesman says the other three blades are Timberwolf or Olson, he’s not sure. Anyone else ordered this “special” and found it worthwhile?
I’m still considering an MM16, but right now for me the LT16HD is how I’m leaning. Any serious caveats, particularly from folks who have worked with this new version of it?
Thanks VERY much for any information!

Father John: I have their 18": it came with two Resaw Kings and two or three other blades, the wheel kit does not block the door. The 16 has the same basic shape so it should have same mobility kit. Duke

take a look at the minimax vs Laguna discussion thread in the general section
Yes, I've been following that one closely. :) I've also read all the threads, just thought I'd fish for any comments before I pull out my credit card.
Thanks!
Good luck! Personally, I'm saving my pennies for a new MM16. when I looked at it vs. the Laguna at a recent wood show, I liked the contruction of the MM16 better. But the Laguna looks to be a good machine as well..
FatherJohn,
Can't believe that you could go wrong with either the Laguna or Minimax.
I own a first generation MM16, if the Laguna mobility kit is anything like the one on the MM16, it will restrict how wide the bottom door will open making wider blade changes (1+ Inch) a challenge to install on the machine. The lower edge of the bottom door restricts access to the slot in the machine between the upper and lower door.
Best of luck

Just got off the phone with Frank from Laguna, who tells me that on the LT16HD, you can in fact block the door if you use the wrong bolt when installing the kit. If you install with the countersunk bolt, no problem with door opening.
Of course that doesn't apply to the MiniMax...
Thanks!
I've owned a MM16 for about 3 weeks now. I wasn't familiar with Laguna's mobility kit so I just looked on their website and it looks very similar to Minimax kit. I don't know what kind of surface you'll be rolling your Laguna over but if your situation is similar to mine, save your money and get a mobile base. Any slightly rough spots on my concrete floor tend to catch and the machine comes to a jerky stop. I've got a Delta mobile base on order for $80 made for one of their big jointers that I intend to use instead. The scariest part is that while using the mobility kits, you'll only have one hand free to stabilize the saw if it does catch and wobble as it stops. See if you can get them to lower the price by leaving their kit out of the package. My 2 cents.
FWIW, the new MM mobility kits use a clevis pin to hold the wheel on instead of a bolt, so getting the door completely open for wide blade changes is a snap. Apparently this same modification can be done to the older MM mobility kits too. I wont even have to deal with the clevis pin removal when my Delta MB gets here.
Waddaya mean it wont fit through the door?
