Customer has asked me to make and wire a table lamp. I’m concerned about possible liability for fire down the road due to misuse of the lamp and/or wiring. Has anyone investigated this situation or been caught up in an unfortunate occurrence? Thanks.

Good question Don,
Why not take the lamp to an elec. shop and have them wire it. Probably the best $20, or so you could spend, keep the receipt from elec shop...Dale
*We used to make lamps and were signed up with Underwriters to put the seal of approval on our lamps. Very expensive and each type of lamp requires a seperate certification. Meaning table lamp versus hardwired outdoor lights. I would send it out to an independent tester and check with your lawyer on the implications to you. Good thinking to bring this issue up before it's too late.
*Why not make the lamp and let HER take it to an electrician?
*Don,Rickk's is good advice. The laws regarding manufacturing electrical products can also vary from state to state; some require that only UL approved components be used, others require that the end product be UL approved...FWIW.Dano
