I am currently building a new shop and would like to replace (pretty much anyway) my chalkline with a pocket laser level that can be hung or tacked on a wall to show a level line. Please provide me with your suggestions, as I would like to make this purchase pronto so that I can begin hanging lap siding before the weather sets in. thanks, jw

Hi JW,
I'm sorry to report that Fine Woodworking hasn't reviewed laser levels and I don't expect us to because they don't fit into the core woodworkers tool list.
Our sister publication Fine Homebuilding has covered these tools to some degree over the past few years. I just spoke to one of the editors over there who said they are preparing a review of laser levels for one of its upcoming issues.
Try posting your question in the free Knots forum, or even Fine Homebuilding's Breaktime forum. There are thousands of woodworkers and home builders on those boards that might be able to offer recommendations. (Links to Knots are breaktime are located at the top of this window).
