I have a PM 20″ lathe. Looking for advice on purchasing a chuck. I have a few questions:
Is there a chuck that can do large and small items or do I need to get 2 different chucks? Which one is the best – quality, versatility, function, etc? Good place to buy – best price with stock and good delivery? Steve Nearman

Steve,
Look at http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/index.html
Click on the "Chucks" link at the left side of the homepage.
Wood lathe chucks can usually be fitted with different size jaws to accommodate different size material, but even then there is a limit. Depending on the different size material you are dealing with, you may or may not have to buy different chucks. Although expensive, the Oneway Stronghold (larger) and the Oneway Talon (smaller) chucks are among the best available.
Good luck,

Buy a couple of face plates (They're cheaper)
There are numerous good lathe chucks out there Nova,Oneway,Versachuck,Most now are scroll. For most you will need several sets of jaws to cover the range of work sizes as the expansion range is limited.Try to purchase one that has adapters for different threads as then you can transfer it to other lathes.Good chucks and jaws cost more than a cheap lathe so research carefully.Another point to bear in mind .Some chucks are based on 4 jaw metalwork chucks and with the jaws fully extended are serious knuckle busters.
