I am having problems getting the spur to bite into the workpiece. the spur keeps spinning in the workpiece. My project is rowing smaller by the minute, so is my patience…help

Assuming your spur center is removable: Check to see that the end opposite the spur is relieved somewhat in outside diameter (to allow for a tiny amount of mushrooming), stand your workpiece on a solid surface, and drive the spur into the end. I find it easiest to saw a plus in the surface across the center mark, to give it more purchase with minimum pounding. To make it easier to reinstall a workpiece, I put a witness mark on the spur center and transfer it to the workpiece. Good luck,
