Lathe recommendations to use in the UK
My friend in the U.K. would like to get into turning. I believe everything there is 220/240 volts.
He wants a variable speed lathe that can do about 40″ long spindles. Any recommendations on lathes that will work over there?
Also, recommendations on lathe tools he can purchase there?
Thanks for your help.

I would suggest that he picks up a copy of Woodturning magazine and reads of the adverts.wood turning is very popular there and there are many wood turning clubs all over the UK.The Worshipful Companey of Woodturners celebrated their 400 th Anniversary some years ago.So turning is well established!!! Probably more turners in the uk proportional to the population than North America.Yes the voltage is different 240V but more importantly it is 50hz.This could be a problem if one is considering shipping a lathe.with V.S. either from USA to UK or bringing one back from UK. As far as tools are concerned probably most of the best tools are made in the UK Henry Taylor ,Sorby ,Hamlet,Ashley Isles,Crown , the list is endless.I hope this is of some help
Wow I had no idea turning was so prevalent over there! I'll have him contact a woodturning club there, he lives near Manchester, for their recommendations on a lathe. Good point about the 50 hz. and using a lathe made in the USA. Thanks for your help.
