Ernie Conover’s article on spindle turning in the current issue mentions a shop-built jig for grinding spindle gouges. Details are supposed to be available on the website but I can’t find them. The search engine mainly brings up book titles. Where do I look? Freehand sharpening doesn’t seem to be working for me. Anybody have a better method?
I’m pretty new at turning, & sharpening seems to be the toughest part to master. Any tips would be appreciated. Conover suggests grinding a flat bevel on skews using the side of a grinding wheel. I’ve been using my belt sander clamped upside down in a bench vice & it seems to work OK.

I recently bought the Oneway sharpening jig and found it well worth the expenditure. I am also a relatively ew turner.
for a true message-board go to woodcentral.they have a far superior setup!

I agree with Louis. I looked at making one and decided Heck for the money I'd buy the One Way setup. It is really nice and will last a lifetime.
