I am sure that I was told this before, but I just ‘re-discovered’ it the hard way.
After setting up several Scenes, I had occassion to add a couple of layers with the result that I had to go back to correct each Scene and Update them. For some reason (in the free version, anyway) those added layers were added to all of the old Scenes.
Does anyone know a shortcut to do so? My advice is to really think about creating all Layers before contemplating creating Scenes.

Yes, what happened in your free version also happens in Pro. I place my standard layers in the template, therefore having them right from the start.

Forrest, you're right. It is easier to make the layers before you create scenes. Part of what defines a scene is the state of the layers.
Tim has one approach that works. I have another. I draw the assembled version of the model. While I am doing that, I develop my ideas about how I'll need to break the model down to show parts of it. Much of that depends upon what I'll be using the model for. After i've finished creating the model, I make the layers and associate them with the components in the model. Generally I make all the layers at one time, turn off their visibility and then make the associations with the components. I know I've associated the layers with all of the components when I have a blank model space. Then I turn the layers back on and continue doing what I need to do with the model. If that involves making plan documentation, I create the exploded, assembly and individual part scenes controlling which scenes are available.
There are a couple of plugins out there that will create new layers that are defined as hidden for existing scenes.
