i have a new 6″ joiner and have been using it for a month
i seem to have a problem getting a board real flat – any sugestions on applying doward pressure or not and any tricks would be good
also it seems tough to push the board most of the time – i am takeing off about a 1/16″
thanks

1/16" is probably a little too much for most 6" jointers when face jointing (you said "flat" so I jumped to conculsion you're speaking of face jointing). I'm no expert, but usually keep it to 1/32" for face jointing.
Here are some questions for you. Answers will help us help you:
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Especially check to make sure your outfeed table isn't
set too high.
Also you might try cleaning the cast iron beds with something like denatured alcohol and applying a good coat of wax. Should make the boards slide much easier.
