All,
I have an old 8″ Black and Decker Lectro Saw that was given to me by my wife’s grandfather. It is in very good condition except for the blade (didn’t have one). I bought a new blade today but the backing washer on the motor arbor has a raised area in the middle that is round with two flats. It looks pretty obvious that the blade is supposed to go over this but the 5/8ths hole or the knockout are not nearly big enough. Were/are there blades with a different type of arbor hole or is there another backing washer that came with the saw and is now missing? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not familar with that particular saw but I seem to remember using a backer washer shaped something like this (_) with a straight line across the top also. That was what the hole looked like. That was on an old saw (being old myself, I have seen something similar).
Does it seem to fit the arbor okay up to that point? If so you might be able to make one using a heavy washer with the hole filed or just w/o the flat part. If this does not seem safe...DON'T use it.
