I was looking for a clamp-on vice for my bench and found a Lee Valley side and top version that looked just like what I need. Getting older and wiser I asked myself if I could mount this on either end of the bench? Looking at the picture the answer was clearly no! A liitle thought and it occurred to me all my Father’s vises were on the left end of the bench. I presume this allows you to saw over space, not the bench and catch the piece you sawed off with your left hand. That works fine — I Have been doing that for years but I have to reach over to get the scrap because I am left-handed. Looking at benches in the catalog showed vices mounted on the front or on the left end of the benches.
I am frustrated because I have spent years sawing awkwardly because of my left-hand preference. I just have never seen anything but vices on the left end. Is there any hope?

Just put a vice on the right. It is your bench and there are no rules so arrange it how you see fit.

Thanks for the advice but I need the mirror image of this vise in order to put it on the other end. The vise is "Handed" which means it will go only on the left end. It is of interest to me as it clamps both on top of the bench or at the side of the bench. When you try to put it on the other end the clamp is not positioned properly to clamp to the bench--unless you can do it upside down and backward?
