Does anyone have experience with the Leigh FMT mortise and tenon jig/fixture? Its so expensive that I really want to know it is worth the money before making a final decision to buy. Are there similar tools available that produce matching mortise and tenons as well as the Leigh? Thanks

Woodrat is an alternative and it is more versatile.
Hello Rather,
I own a FMT, have owned the jig for about 2 years. As you have stated, the jig is very well made and quite expensive (Leigh has recently reduced the list price). I believe that FWW magazine did a product test of all the m/t jigs last year some time, you may want to review the article.
Now about the FMT, it seems to work well enough, although getting the right fit is a little fussy as you need to make various test cuts to dial-in the proper cut. All in all if I was given the chance to do it all over again, I think that I would take the money I spent on the FMT + the extra punge router and apply the funds to buy the slot motising attachment for my Minimax jointer/planer combo instead of the FMT.
Best of luck
I have owned the FMT jig for about two years as well. As stated earlier, it does require a few test cuts to get set up properly, but once that is done, you can cut repeatable, perfect motise and tenons all day long. Way faster than my old hollow chisel motise machine, which has been sitting in the corner of the shop for the past two years. I would buy mine again.
Good luck
Michael
I have to agree with "Chaseford": once you've got it dialed in, it's pretty foolproof and very quick.
