I’am in the finishing stages of buliding a cherry dresser. I would like to duplicate the finish that Lexington puts on their Bob Timerlake line. It is an aged satin finish that is really unique. If anyone has seen the finish and can offer help with duplicating it, I would appreciate the help. Also any advice on things to watch for or avoid in finishing cherry.

This type finish is a multi-step finish which can be hard to duplicate exactly. Here's my best shot for most skill levels.
1. Ditress wood to simulate wear and tear with files, keys etc.
2. Seal with one coat 1 lb cut shellac.
3. Using a gel stain like Bartleys or McCloskeys, wipe it on and let dry, Use a color that matches the sample.
4. Seal
5. Wipe on a dark brown gel stain or glaze to darken the ditressing marks.
6. Seal
7. Apply 1-2 coats satin finish (lacquer or varnish)
