Lie-Nielsen or Veritas Block planes?

I’m rewarding myself by moving up to a better quality block plane, question is which manufactuer? I’ve read up on both the Veritas and the LN but hvae never held either in my hand. I’m looking to by the standard and the low angle both in the adjustable mouth version.
Thanks for your input,
Eric

L-N hand s down.
I have the LN low angle and the LN low angle rabbet. I have not used the Veritas. Personally I would buy the LN because you are not going to wish that you had bought the LV. I don't know if the same could be said the other way around. I am sure that the Veritas is an excellent tool, but if finances allow then I would buy a LN.
As someone else said, you won't wish you had purchased the L-V, so your safe from buyers remorse... But, I have the L-V and I've been very happy with it. The blade had to be honed of course, but the plane itself was very usable out of the box. The adjustable throat on this plane is nice and smooth, the lateral adjust is easy to operate and the depth adjustment is nice and tight (minimal backlash).
I'm sure you'll be happy with either. Of course, I probably would have bought the LN, but someone asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I didn't want them to spend another $75 :-)
Both are great, it comes down to you get what you pay for i think. If you are wanting the absolute best tool for the job and money is no object, LN is the best. But i think veritus is just a hair under as far as quality. In my case funds are limited, but i want a tool that will last. I feel comfortable buying from lee-valley, i have the low angle plane and i love it. It's a solid tool, i don't regret buying it at all.
I have the little bronze fixed mouth L-N and, for Christmas, I got the Lee Valley apron plane.
The L-N has a better overall finish. The Lee Valley has a little bit rougher casting (sharper edges and so forth). That is where they saved some manufacturing time. They did, however, put ample time into making the sole flat and nicely polished.
They both cut wonderfully.
I would buy the L-N block plane. The difference in price is not that significant. As you get into the larger bench planes, the price difference becomes more significant and, therefore, the Veritas becomes a better value.
Cheers

Hi,
I've got both the small and large LN lower angle block plane and find them very good. No regret buying them. The larger one with the adjustable mouth is very good. I use them all the time.
However, I've used my friend LV low angle block plane. I find it is good but there are some negative sides to it. It finishing and tuning is not as good as LN. The adjustment of the mouth is not good as LN. However, the plus is it got a broader blade and it got lateral adjustment ( side to side)for the blade. With some attention to tuning, the LV block plane is hard to beat for the price.
Lastly, my friend with the boarder hand prefer his LV block plane to my LN. He says my LN feels heavier then his LV.
Both are good stuff. Hard choice isn't it.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I was leaning strongly to the side of LN because of reputation, but had heard good things about the Veritas. I will be placing my order today on the LN block planes. The extra $70 I'm sure will be worth it.
Thanks Eric
I'd go with the LN too. You might want to check out this site. They have pretty good LN pricing & free freight.

I love the smell of sawdust in the morning.
That's exactly who I was buying from. I'm not quite sure how they offer planes for $15 less than everyone else and still throw in the shipping but I'm not complaining.
Thanks, Eric
