I would like to get a Scraping plane. I have looked on Ebay and the price of the Stanley scraping 112 and Lie-Nielsen are similar.
I am interested in opinions on the differences in the planes.
Thanks

Their cutting geometry are identical. The L-N is designed exactly after the Stanley #112. Whats different is the material and craftsmanship. The end results will be the same....

*For $210 US it is not a bad deal. Since you are getting a new tool. From what I have seen around you will pay around $130 to $180 for a Stanley 112 depending on the condition.Myself I would get the LN.Scott
*I have the Lie-Nielsen and like it very much for large areas. Still prefer hand scrapers for certain jobs where I need to feel the work. I believe the scraper blade on the LN is thicker. It's a class act.
*What I hear you folks saying. The Lie-Nielsen 112 does the job as well as the Stanley 112. If one is interested in using older planes then the Stanley is it. But the Neilsen is every bit a good as the Stanley with out the hassle of reconditioning and in some cases less expensive. Thanks for your comments.
*The LN I would think is much better , since it has the Thicker high quality steel blade...or you could get a hock blade for the stanley
*Anyone ever made their own scraper blade out of A2 steel??
