             Everyone makes those mobile bases now, so you can usually find them on sale somewhere. And I dont think ordering a couple from a manufacturer would be much cheaper than the whole assembly on sale.

                 I have mobile bases under all my machines.  Money well spent.  I just bought another one yesterday to put under my new planer, which is still sitting in the box.(sigh).

           Well tomorrow's Saturday, so if I get up early enough, I can probably get it assembled, and try it out before the wife wakes up and gives me my orders.

                       What do you need the casters for anyway?

   I use to fixed dollies & two crazy leg dollies(They turn) with brakes. Every thing I have, except the 4'X8' table is on dollies.

   One of my machines already has two wheels on it. If you lift the machine about 2" on one side, it's enough to have it roll just fine. Don't want to buy a whole kit when all I need is the lift caster.MarkVisit my woodworking blog Dust Maker

   IMHO, There is no comparison between the integral toe-lever lift caster assemblies offered for .... say the Delta equipment (as for the old cabinet band saws), and the "mobile-bases" that only lock with a thumb screw or wing screw into two of the caster wheels.  When you can drop the entire unit down on its substantial feet, it's not going to move.  When you have four casters, or worse, three on some jointer bases, with two wheels locked .... you have less than two square inches in contact with the floor .... often allowing the machine to move as you feed heavier material into it!  Even my 15" Asian Powermatic planer moves when I have to help some particularly rough stock through it.

   If the toe-lift assys are too expensive, I just use cast-steel casters sitting in rubber floor cups .... otherwise sold to protect synthetic floors from caster damage.  $16 worth of 2 1/2" swivel casters and an $8 2x4 will make a mobile base for most anything, and if you're lucky, the local hdwe will have locking swivelcasters.  I get soo mad at that commercial three wheel base under my Delta jointer that one day I'll plant that machine & never move it.    Someday!

   I'm not getting it... Do you prefer 4 locking wheels or three wheels (one lifting).My BS does not move once the unit is lowered...THe device I'm referring to looks like this:

   My preference is four retractible casters, when available.  Four locking casters or swivel casters contained within caster cups are my second choice.  The Rockler three wheel setup seems bulky, but stable when machine is down.  I have no experience with that item .... I fabricate bases when the older ones are not available.

   Marc,
   Try this web page as a potential source of caster wheels. I have a huge store that has just caster wheels about a mile from my house that is listed on this site. Maybe you have one near enough to you. It has many listed by state.
