I’m trying to track down a source for a sewing machine “lift” (the mechanism that controls the height of the sewing machine as it sits in an opening in a sewing table). Rockler has a mechanical lift, but I’m after an “air lift”. I’ve seen reference after reference to one in ads for factory-built sewing machine cabinets, but can’t find a source for the part itself. I’ve googled this with every variation I can think of, but can’t seem to locate a manufacturer.
Anybody have an idea where to look?
Thanks,
-M.

Lee Valley (http://www.leevalley.com) sells one which uses a gas strut to lift the sewing machine. (Gas struts are often used in cars to hold up tailgates, and sometimes hoods.) Maybe that's what the marketeers mean by "air lift".

Thank you! That looks exactly like the lift in the factory-built sewing cabinets. In fact, now that I see the excellent description and picture at Lee Valley's site, it might be that the lift in the Rockler catalog is the same one -- the info on the Rockler website is useless though, so I can't tell one way or the other.

I have one of the Rockler lifts (#33100) and it is indeed an air lift. The unit is stamped "Horn of America." Horn is a major producer of sewing and craft cabinets and lists this lift for sale at their web site. Long story short, I've had this unit for a year and a half (unused and still in the box) and wouldn't mind selling it for $89.00 plus postage. Let me know if you might be interested.

Did you sell the lift yet?
I am very interested in the lift you spoke about. I need to build another sewing cabinet for my wife and need a lift.
buying your lift
If you still have the lift and want to sell it I would love to buy it from you if it can hold up to 50lbs
Lift
Do you still have the lift for sale?
We have been looking for a lift for our sewing machine. We came across a company called Cottage Craft works which sells these:
