I would like to use some sort of lift mechanism to raise my portable planer from inside a cabinet. I typically keep in on top of the cabinet that serves as an outfeed table for my table saw. When I need the saw, I put it in the cabinet. Any recs on how to mechanize the lift out of the cabinet. It will save wear and tear on the operator. I’m aware of TV lifts, but I’m not sure of the cost or other alternatives. Any ideas?

Mike,
Wood magazine has featured several plans for "flip top" cabinets for routers, planers, etc. These seem relatively simple, and don't require any electrical parts. Here's a link to one for a portable planer.

Thanks. That system looks elegantly simple...and way less expensive than a motorized TV lift.
