Stained a set of Rustic Pine end tables over the weekend. They turned about a little darker than I wanted. I used Minwax Water Based Stain. Can I apply a lighter color over the top? Has anybody ever tried this? Any obvious on how to solve my problem? Thanks in advance for your help!

Wash the stained parts with water. If you'd used an alchohol based stain, I'd suggest washing with alchohol, and if oil based I'd suggest washing with mineral (white) spirits. I'd also suggest you stain a piece of similar scrap the same as the stuff you have that is too dark, and wash that with water first to see how much the water affects both the stain and the timber. This can help with dyed parts, but I'm not sure if the Minwax product you described is a straight dye, or perhaps a pigment stain, hence the suggestion that you do a test first. Slainte, RJ.
*Thanks for the advise! I give it a try and let you know how it goes. Thanks Brent
