I was just doing a litte research into cabinet materials and techniques for an upcoming project and thought I’d go to the experts. I’ll be making cabinets for a vintage Airstream and although I could just duplicate what’s already there I wanted to have a look at some better materials and methods of construction. I think it currently has 1″ x 2″ frames with 3/8″ veneered plywood skins mostly just stapled and glue together. I want the light weight but I also would like a more functional build with smooth metal drawer sliders and very functional drawer closure fittings, not just friction but mechanical. I wanted to see if there were any discussions about cabinets that used lightweight materials and design that I could study for ideas? Pics attatched for reference…

light weight cabinet doors etc.
I once had a contract to build cabinet doors for a camper rv company. We used light pine frameing around the doors with a 3/4 inch "TRICEL" paper core. covered with verticle grade laminates. You could probably use styrofoam for the core if you're careful what contact glue you use so as not the eat up the foam.

Lightweight kitchen cabinets can be a challenge. If you want a lightweight wood, choose something like pine. For cabinets for mobile home, using sturdy particle board may be your best bet.
