Live edge wood slab fixed to kitchen countertop
Hi all,
I am trying to extend this granite countertop with a live edge cherry slab. What should I use to join the two surfaces together without needing legs on the corners? I have also attached a picture of an example. Should I use dowels? Corner braces? Something else?
Thanks your your input,
Aaron

A permanent extension? And width or length?

I'm with Mikaol. we need more info. Are you planning to entirely cover the granite? Just protrude over the end? Or the side? How far do you want to protrude? Expected weight or use? You will get better answers if you provide more details.
The slab in that second picture is really big. Thick. It must weigh a ton.
Your cabinet was built for the straight-down load it currently carries. You may need to beef up the structure to cantilever the extra load, which will probably include a couple of humans leaning on it. Is it even fastened to the floor? It may not be.
After you are sure the boxes are strong enough, take off the show panels and notch them so you can add corbels or hefty shelf brackets to support the lunber outboard of the granite top.
This is all generalities...not having seen the boxes or the live edge slab I am sorts-kinda guessing at what I might do.
I think you are attempting a mixed material Frankenstein countertop. If you attempt this it will not look good and affect resale value if you ever decide to sell.
If you wish to extend into a barstool type countertop, start over and replace the whole thing. The supports will depend on what you wish to do with the existing panels or cabinet doors.
