I noticed last night that LN now sells a medium shoulder plane. Has anyone had a chance to try this tool? I am sure its great as it looks identical to the larger LN shoulder plane. How new is this, I haven’t been able to find any mention of it otherwise on knots through a couple of quick searches, but I’m sure there must be discussion of it. I was going to buy the clifton 420, but this discovery complicates that decision.

I have a new Lee Valley medium shoulder plane. A thing of beauty. May be a better value than the LN, at $139.

Hi Tony,
I've been lusting after that one for a day or two myself. Sorry, no first hand experience, you buy one and report back!
spoke with LN today (via email) -- its actually not yet available, its in pre-production, but sounds like it will be available in about 3 months (possibly less, possibly more), but initially not through dealers, only directly from LN. they explained that when they come out with a new tool they typically withhold from dealer network for 6 months or so in order to keep up with direct demand. in any case, i plan on getting one and will certainly report back, but it will be a few months. best, tony.
Sounds good, I'll be listening!Steve
