gs to one and all. i have recently bought some cherry for 6.85 per bf. thank goodness i did not need 500 bf. is this high or has the fuel charge come into play on this the way it has on so many things these days? i live in so.east n.c. and our outlets for woods is minimal. we are about to leave on a trip to new england via rt. 95. and i was wondering if any of my fellow knot heads were aware of a source within say an hours drive of 95 that one might find hardwoods.many thanks . bob

In your very own state, in Mayodan, is an excellent dealer in furniture woods, Steve Wall Lumber: http://www.walllumber.com/default.asp
His site currently lists select cherry 4/4 at less than $5/b.f. and other grades at lower prices.
If Atlanta is closer, I shop at Suwanee Lumber and last time I purchased (just a few weeks ago) it was less than $5 per board foot. Here is there web site. The drive probably wouldn't make sense unless you needed a good amount.

I've been paying around $7 for clear and $5 for FAS (which are pretty worthless in most cases). Those are NJ/SE PA prices.
Wannabe,
Another option is "The Hardwood Store of North Carolina" ( http://www.hardwoodstore.com ). They have the best prices and selection on domestics of any retailer that I have seen in NC. They are 20 minutes east of Greensboro on 85/40. Where are you in NC?

Hi Bob, is this price for rough or planed lumber? That to me seems very high. I don't know of any place along your path, but here in southern Indiana I am paying $3.15 a boardfoot for 4/4 select & better or $ 1.70 for #1 common, this is rough milled. The mill that I go to will also plane it for $ .15 a bf and rip one edge for $.075 a pass.
From the looks of the other prices on the board I am glad that I don't live on the east coast.
Mike
