is there a correct way to align a 90* lock miter bit so you dont have to use a spacer on the fence? I have adjusted the height and the fence several times and cant quite get it right.

Probably the most set-up sensitive bit to use. Use the lower left picture as a guide. The pieces must go together perfectly flush as you would want a glue joint.

If you care to take the time. You can cut a shim for the outfeed side when running the vertical passes. It's better than running on the "knife edge" Using double sided tape to hold the shim ledge in place.
