I am fixing to start building some log furniture for the first time. Coffee table first, followed by night stands, bed and dining table and chairs. Everything will be pine. Thought I would get the tapered tenon cutter and counter sink from Lee Valley. Are there any sage words of wisdom from anybody before getting underway?

Making your own log furniture is a brilliant idea. Many people want to achive that rustic feel that log furniture can give but are a bit hesitant to buy one since they know that the price can be a little over their budget. You must choose the best wood for the best result. You must sand, bathe and condition the wood. You must have the right hand tools for the job. This will make sure you won't have a hard time making your furniture. If you can't see some tenon cutters in your area you can also do one with the help of some DIY sites. :) Lastly, choose the best adhesive and nails for the trick. Good luck on your journey and I hope we can see your work here.- J.S

I have not ever made any log furniture but I do remember a video from WoodWorkers Guild of America that showed the steps and hints in building same. Don't know if it is still available as a DVD but their website is:
