I am in need of someone who will mill some logs to furniture grade wood(rough). My brother has a tree removal business and would love to take advantage of some of the logs he cuts up. I live in southern NJ. If anyone could give some help I would appreciate it.
Thanx LOU

Lou,
I live in Monmouth County and had some trees milled by a gentleman from Cranbury. His name is Bill and his company is Logs to Lumber (609) 395-1215. Spent a whole day with him, it was great. Whoever you use, make sure you have enough logs ready to make it worth their while. Also, be prepared with stickers, sealer, etc. A poorly stacked pile will become useless firewood real quick.
Good Luck,

Wolfman, Thank you for the advice. how many logs will be worth their while and what lenghts. Where can I learn this process?
Thanx again, Lou
Lou,
Probably should have said make sure its worth your while. Some sawyers have a minimum charge to come to you, thats all I meant. They probably would not come for one log. If you find someone local, your brother can drop the logs off at the mill for you, you will probably save some money that way. Where in south jersey are you located?
Wolfman
Wolf, Burlington county area.

Lou,
You can also try Dave and Annes Sawmill in Pennsville, (856) 987-9483. There is plenty of information on milling lumber, check out the bookstores, library, etc. A lot of the woodworking magazines have also done articles on this. You are lucky to have someone in the tree business in the family. Good luck.

Check the websites for WoodMizer, Baker, TimberKing and the other bandsaw mill manufacturers. I think they usually keep a directory of owners that do custom milling.
