Making a table top with a 45 degree beveled edge. I am using a brand new sharp 45 degree router bit. Is it best to start the cutting on the end grain end or the long grain side? I will taking smaller cuts working up to a final profile.

End grain first. If it chips out you can clean up when profiling the long grain.

I agree. In addition, if you glue or clamp a small block to the long grain at each end, any tear-out will occur in the sacrificial blocks. Then, saw them off or remove the clamps and cut the long grain sides.
