Ernie: I want to make a long tool rest for my Nova Lathe. I have your lathe book, and it looks like I would be required to drill a hole and thread it it in the tail stock. I don’t want to do that. Do you have another or more detailed plan for a long tool rest? I will be turning Windsor chair legs. Tom Russell or tinkertom

It depends on which tail stock you have. If you have the old tail stock which is a light skeletal casting you can clamp directly to it with a C clamp. If you have the newer example it is much heavier and built like a conventional tail stock. You will have to drill a hole in this but that is no big deal. It needs to be a minim of 3/8" x 16 with 1/" x 13 probably being better. I can send you exact instructions including drill sizes if you decide to give it a go.
With best regards,
Ernie Conover
