Has anyone used this? Can it be used as a centering jig, attached to the tailstock to hold segment rings for a segmented vase while the glue dries. Does it center accurately?

Yes a longworth chuck will center your piece, it's what they're designed to do. How accurate it is depends on how well is made. Some have more play in them than others.
How good is Ron Browns? It is expensive.
It seems the Longworth will not work to center a segmented ring when the diameter of the vase is decreasing. The posts holding the ring will get in the way.
That says more about the height of the ring you're trying to mount than it does the chuck. Not all rings are the same.
The segment rings will be 1/2” thick
E mailed Ron Brown and he said they sell a 1/2” spacer to address this issue.
